Olympians Shine in 2021 Ord River Paddle
It was two past Olympians that took line honors in the men’s and women’s Ord River Paddle, 2021.
Former New Zealand Kayak Olympian, Rob Jenkinson, who now lives in Perth, heard about the chance to paddle down the Ord River and jumped at the opportunity. Rob took 3hours and 35 minutes to paddle the 29km down river, from Argyle Dam to Sandy Creek. Rob, who has paddles all over the world rated the Ord River as “in the most spectacular top two places he has ever paddled in the world, the other being Whistler, Canada”. “The river and red rock gorgers were awesome”.
In the women’s field, former sailing Olympic gold medalist, Belinda Stowell-Brett, came home first lady and third place overall. Belinda returned to Kununurra from Fremantle to compete in the paddle, after enjoying her time at this year’s Lake Argyle Swim, where she was one half of the second placed 20km Duo. Proving, she is equally fast on the water, as in the water, Belinda finished in 3 hours and 47 minutes.
